Taylor Swift's long and luscious curls that perfectly complemented her youthful personality and romantic style are no more, at least for a while. The country superstar showed up to the 6th annual Billboard Women in Music event, held in New York City on December 2nd, with a drastic new hairdo.

The New Cut

As reported by ABC News, Taylor Swift arrived at the event with sleek, straight hair with long layers and bangs. The straightening makes her hair look much longer than before when it was in curls. The layers, which start below her shoulders, add some movement and keep her hair from looking too heavy. Her bangs sweep across her forehead a little past her eyebrows, framing her almond-shaped blue eyes. Her hair also seems to have been dyed a darker shade of blonde. She added more drama to her look that night by wearing bright red lipstick in the same shade as her dress, which featured a plunging neckline. With such bold hair, lips, and dress, she wisely kept the rest of her makeup light. Her new hair certainly makes her look more sophisticated and glamorous.

Woman of the Year

Now almost 22 years old, this could be the singer's way of signaling to the world that she's a confident and sexy woman and not just a tween idol. Her talents certainly go far beyond that of the typical pop stars of today. She writes and co-produces her own songs and plays the guitar. Billboard certainly thinks she’s a woman in a league of her own: she was honored at the event with a Woman of the Year award. Past recipients include Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, and Ciara.

Straight for Good?

The singer clearly loves her new style, as she excitedly tweeted a photo of her new hair with the words "Got a haircut" to her fans a few days ago. She didn't say whether her straight hair is due to a permanent straightening process or to the use of a flat iron. This isn’t the first time that she’s drastically changed her look. She’s straightened her hair and had bangs before several times in previous years, only to quickly go back to her famous curls. Only time will tell whether her straight hair is permanent or simply temporary again. Considering how connected she is to her fans, their reaction to her new hair may be the deciding factor in whether she goes back to her famous curls.
